Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) was founded in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1984 by the Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, which was established by the visionary academic Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan. It is recognized as a deemed-to-be university. In 2024, the university was ranked 73rd in the NIRF University rankings. Furthermore, it holds a position of 1501+ in the Times Higher Education Rankings 2024 and is ranked 189th in Southern Asia according to QS World Rankings 2024. The institution comprises four colleges: Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Chennai; Sree Balaji College of Physiotherapy, Chennai; Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Chennai; and Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SLIMS), Puducherry. Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
BIHER has also received the Highest Grade ‘A’ accreditation from NAAC, Government of India. The institute provides undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as research-level programs such as PhD in various fields including Management, Engineering, Science, and Humanities.
