Bodoland University was founded through the Bodoland University Act of 2009, which was enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. The current Bodoland University represents the transformation of the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University into a fully operational state university in accordance with the provisions of the Act. The university comprises six faculties (17 Departments) and one Centre for Studies (four centres). The faculties include: Languages, Social Science, Science and Technology, Commerce and Management, Humanities, and Environmental Science. Bodoland University offers an MBA program that is recognized by UGC and affiliated with AICTE.
The Faculty of Languages consists of three Departments: Assamese, Bodo, and English. The Faculty of Social Sciences includes three Departments: Economics, History, and Political Science. The Faculty of Science and Technology has seven Departments: Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science and Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, and Zoology. The Faculty of Commerce and Management comprises two Departments: Business Studies and Commerce. The Faculty of Humanities has one Department: Education. The Faculty of Environmental Studies includes one Department: Geography. The Centre for Studies encompasses four Centres: Centre for Bamboo Studies, Centre for Bodo Studies, Centre for Women Studies, and South and South East Asia Study Centre.
