IIT Guwahati - Indian Institute of Technology

IIT Guwahati is the sixth Indian Institute of Technology to be founded, situated along the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Assam. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati hosts the first research park in North East India.IIT G offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs across various fields, including Engineering, Management, Design, and is particularly recognized for its BTech and MTech courses. • Rankings: According to the QS World University Rankings 2027, the institute is ranked 349 in the Top Global Universities category. IIT Guwahati holds the 7th position in the Engineering category as per Outlook 2026 and is ranked 8th in the 'Engineering' category by NIRF 2025.
• Flagship Programme: The institute is well-known for its Engineering courses, especially the flagship BTech program. Popular BTech specializations include CSE, AI & ML, ECE, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and more. Other sought-after programs include BDes, MTech, and MDes.
• IIT Guwahati Fees: The tuition fee for BTech is approximately INR 8 lakh across all specializations. For MTech, the tuition fee ranges from INR 60K to 8 lakh depending on the specialization. Within MTech, the most affordable specializations include Data Science, Chemical Engineering with a focus on Materials Science and Technology, and Electronics and Electrical Engineering with a focus on Communication Engineering, while Civil Engineering with a focus on Water Resources Engineering and Management has a fee of INR 8 lakh.
• Admission Criteria and Accepted Exams: For BTech admission, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced scores are accepted, while GATE scores are required for MTech admission. UCEED, IIT JAM, and CAT are also accepted for BDes, MSc, and MBA programs, respectively.
• BTech Cutoff 2026: The JEE Advanced cutoff for IIT Guwahati for BTech admission Round 5 in 2026 has been announced. The cutoff ranged from 822 for BTech in Computer Science and Engineering to 12170 for BTech in Biosciences and Bioengineering. According to the IIT Guwahati CSE cutoff, it has become the most competitive BTech branch for admission in the General-All India category.

• Placements: Some information regarding IIT Guwahati placements for 2026 has been released. The median package during the 2026 placements was INR 20 LPA. BTech had the highest placement rate at 81%, with an average package of INR 29.62 LPA. A total of 1,592 students registered, out of which 1,004 were placed during the season. However, the average package for BTech placements in 2025 was INR 25.21 L, with the highest package reaching INR 1.25 crore per annum. The average package for CSE graduates from IIT Guwahati in 2025 was INR 20.62 LPA, while the average salary for MBA graduates during the 2025 placements was INR 11.43 L.
• MOUs: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has established MoUs with national and international institutions worldwide, including Gifu University, Coventry University Group, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, to enhance student and faculty exchange programs and create more opportunities for international internships, joint conferences, and workshops.
