The Indian Institute of Technology Indore, commonly referred to as IIT Indore or IITI, was founded in 2009. Established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, it is recognized as an institute of national significance. Situated in Simrol, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, IIT Indore is among the eight new IITs launched by the Government of India. IITI is a Public Technical Institute and has achieved the 16th position in the NIRF 2024 Rankings in the 'Engineering' category.
IIT Indore has entered into numerous MoUs at both national and international levels with various institutions and organizations. National-level MoUs have been signed with entities such as ICAR-Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Indore, IIT Bhilai, Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE), Bhopal, AIIMS Bhopal, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and IIIT Allahabad, among others. Internationally, MoUs have been established with National Taiwan University, Taiwan, Institute for Catalysis (ICAT), Japan, Chonnam National University, Korea, University of Agder, Norway, and others.
IIT Indore provides full-time BTech, MTech, MS, and PhD programs across various disciplines including Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Space Sciences and Engineering, Biotechnology, and more. Additionally, IITI offers a BTech + MTech dual degree program in a variety of specializations for students to select from. Admissions to IIT Indore are based on national-level entrance exams like JEE Advanced, and the admission process includes counseling sessions such as JoSAA to facilitate student admissions.
As per the latest placement report available on the institute's official website, 89.76% of the BTech batch secured placements. Moreover, the highest and average packages offered during the IIT Indore BTech placements in 2023 were INR 68 LPA and INR 25.45 LPA, respectively. IIT Indore (IITI) History
Below are some historical facts about IIT Indore:
- Founded in 2009, IIT Indore is one of the eight new IITs established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the Institutes of Technology Amendment Act, 2011.
- The Act was approved by the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012.
- The then HRD Minister of India, Arjun Singh, laid the foundation stone of IIT Indore on 17 February 2009 at its permanent campus in Simrol, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
- From 2009 to 2010, IIT Indore operated from its temporary campus at the Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, under the mentorship of IIT Bombay, with Dr. Pradeep Mathur serving as the founding director.
- The first graduating class of IIT Indore completed their studies in 2013, and the institute held its inaugural Convocation Day on 8 June 2013.
- IITI transitioned from two rented campuses to its permanent campus in Simrol in October 2015.
