Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University

The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University. It is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and has received accreditation from the NBA and NAAC. Founded by Chinnaswamy Rajam, it was the first self-financing engineering institute in the country and later became part of Anna University. In the NIRF 2023 Ranking, the Madras Institute of Technology was placed 14th in the 'University' category. MIT has established MoUs with several international universities, including the Tokyo Polytechnic University in Japan and the University of Stuttgart in Germany, among others.

Founded in 1949, the Madras Institute of Technology is a private engineering institution with over 9 departments offering more than 10 courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. All these courses are approved by AICTE and span various fields, including Engineering, Science, and Technology. Popular programs at the Madras Institute of Technology include BE/BTech, BSc, MTech, and MSc. Admission to the BTech program is conducted through the JEE Mains and TNEA entrance examinations, followed by counseling. MSc admissions are based on scores from the TANCET entrance examination.
