The National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh, also known as NID Vijayawada, is a public design institution. It is one of the seven NIDs located in India. The other NIDs are situated in Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bangalore (Karnataka), Kurukshetra (Haryana), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Jorhat (Assam), and Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh). NID Vijayawada operates as an autonomous entity under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), which is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. NID Andhra Pradesh, along with NID Haryana, NID Assam, and NID Madhya Pradesh, was established in recent years. These NIDs have been recognized as Institutions of National Importance through an Act of Parliament and are renowned as premier design institutes globally, as per the National Institute of Design Act, 2014.
The National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh (NID AP) was founded in September 2015 and currently offers a BDes program with three specializations. To admit students into its BDes program, NID conducts a two-stage entrance examination known as the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT).
NID AP has formed international partnerships with various national and global institutes/universities to provide students with enhanced exposure, including collaborations with Design School HSLU (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Switzerland), KHM (The Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany), Bath Spa University (UK), and others.
