The National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, commonly known as NIT Hamirpur, is one of the thirty-one NITs in India. It was established through a partnership between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
NIT Hamirpur was originally founded as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1986, starting with just two departments - Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering - in contrast to the current 13 departments. In 2002, REC was granted deemed university status and transformed into NIT Hamirpur.
