NIT Trichy - National Institute of Technology

The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, commonly referred to as NIT Trichy, is a government institution. Previously, it was known as Regional Engineering College. The institute has achieved a NAAC Grade of A++. It is recognized by UGC, AICTE, and the Government of India. Several of the programs offered are accredited by the NBA. • Rankings: The Week ranked the institute 8th in the "Engineering" category for 2026. According to the NIRF 2025, the institute secured #30 in the Overall category, #9 in Engineering, #57 in Management, #33 in Research Institutions, and #9 in Architecture & Planning (NIRF 2026 rankings are pending).
• Courses: At the undergraduate level, BTech & BArch programs are available. The institute provides MTech, MBA, MSc, MArch, MCA, and other postgraduate courses. It also offers PhD programs.
• Flagship Courses: The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli features BTech & MTech as its flagship programs. BTech is available in 9 specializations, including Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, among others. For the BTech program, admission is determined by JEE Mains scores, followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) or Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) counseling process. Candidates must have GATE ranks for MTech and IIT JAM ranks for MSc programs. NIT Trichy also accepts CAT, CUET-PG, and other scores for specific course admissions.
• Placements: The placement statistics for 2026 are yet to be released. According to external sources, the average package during BTech placements was 18.73 LPA. The highest packages offered to BTech CSE and BTech ECE were INR 53.28 LPA and INR 64.3 LPA, respectively, in the 2025 placements. Notable companies such as Amazon, Genpact, Accenture, and HCL visited the campus.
• NIT Trichy Cutoff: The NIT Trichy JEE Main cutoff for 2026 has been announced for Round 7 admissions to the BE/BTech course across various categories under the All India and Home State quotas. The JEE Main Round 7 Closing Rank (General-All India) for BTech ranged from 1471 to 24612. The cutoff for BTech in CSE was 1471. BTech in CSE, with a closing rank of 1471, followed by BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, with a Round 7 closing rank of 3630, are the two most competitive branches for admission at NIT Trichy for the General AI category.
• Recent collaborations: IIT Delhi has recently established an MoU with NIT Trichy. This collaboration provides eligible students with the opportunity for early admission to MTech, MS (research), and PhD programs at IIT Delhi without the GATE qualification, subject to meeting eligibility criteria. Additionally, it has partnered with Kauvery Hospital to launch a PG Diploma in Healthcare Technology.
