Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, commonly referred to as SMVD University or SMVDU, was founded in 1999 under the legislation of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature. This fully residential University is located close to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, near Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. It is recognized by the UGC under Section 2(F) & Section 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956.
SMVDU boasts over 20 collaborations and includes one college of Nursing (SMVD College of Nursing) along with four faculties comprising 15 Schools. The University offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Integrated, and PhD programmes in various fields such as Engineering, Science, Management, Philosophy, and other subjects of current relevance, with all technical courses accredited by AICTE, CIC, and COA. Admissions to the University are based on both entrance exams and merit, followed by SMVDU Direct Counselling specific to each course.
