The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced that students from commerce, arts, and humanities backgrounds are eligible to apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. This decision opens doors for BCom graduates, allowing them to participate in a prestigious examination that traditionally catered primarily to engineering and technology students. The application process for GATE 2027 has been postponed, with online registrations set to commence on August 27, 2026, at the official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
GATE 2027 will be conducted by IIT Madras for a total of 30 subjects, providing a wide array of options for candidates. The official notifications confirm that candidates holding degrees such as B.Com, B.Sc, and B.A. (three-year programs) can apply for master's programs at IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), provided they meet the necessary GATE cutoff scores.
Successful candidates will not only gain admission to prestigious institutions but will also be eligible for a GATE scholarship or stipend of INR 12,400 per month. The registration timeline for GATE 2027 has been outlined, with the regular application period running from August 27 to September 27, 2026.
