The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class 12 compartment examination on July 28, 2026. Following the exam, numerous students expressed their concerns regarding the difficulty level of the paper, which they found to be significantly tougher than the main board examinations. Additionally, students noted discrepancies in the chapter-wise weightage of the questions, leading to further frustration and anxiety about their performance.
In light of these challenges, many students are calling on the CBSE to consider awarding grace marks to help mitigate the impact of the exam's difficulty on their overall scores. The fear of receiving low marks in the compartment exam is particularly acute, as students believe it could adversely affect their college admissions and future academic plans. They are also urging the board to adopt a more lenient approach during the evaluation process to ensure fair assessment.
Approximately 163,000 students participated in this year's supplementary examination, highlighting the significant number of candidates affected by the results. The CBSE is expected to announce the Class 12 compartment results by the second week of August, with students able to access their scores through the board's official website by entering the required details.
To pass, students must achieve a minimum score of 33% in each subject. For subjects that include practical components, candidates are required to secure at least 33% separately in both the practical and theory assessments. The CBSE employs a 9-point grading system, which categorizes students based on their performance, with grades ranging from A-1 for the top 1/8th of candidates to E for those who fail.
As the announcement date for the results approaches, students remain hopeful for a favorable outcome. The ongoing discussions about grace marks and evaluation leniency reflect the broader concerns within the student community regarding fairness and support from the educational authorities during challenging times.
