The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially commenced the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. As students begin their application journey, authorities have issued a stern reminder regarding the importance of adhering to document upload specifications. Incorrectly formatted images or signatures are a frequent cause for application rejection, making it essential for candidates to review the technical requirements before submitting their forms.
Interested applicants can access the registration portal at the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The deadline for submitting applications without a late fee is September 27, 2026, while those applying after this date will have until October 5, 2026, to complete their registration with a late fee. Beyond the document guidelines, candidates are also reminded to prepare their DigiLocker credentials and ensure all necessary identification proofs are verified.
To ensure a seamless verification process, IIT Madras has outlined precise requirements for the photograph and signature. For the photograph, the image must be recent, taken within the last three months, and set against a clear white background. The dimensions must be 3.5 cm in width and 4.5 cm in height, with the candidate’s face occupying 30% to 35% of the frame. Candidates must ensure their faces are not obscured by accessories such as sunglasses, spectacles, or caps. The file must be in JPEG or JPG format, with a maximum file size of 600 KB and a resolution between 200 x 260 pixels and 530 x 690 pixels.
The signature requirements are equally specific to prevent potential disqualification during the examination. Candidates must use only black or dark blue ink when signing. The signature should be uploaded in JPG or JPEG format, with a file size not exceeding 300 KB. The image must be cropped so that the signature covers 70% to 80% of the space, maintaining an aspect ratio (height:width) between 2.75 and 3.75. The resolution for the signature must fall between 250 x 80 pixels and 580 x 180 pixels. It is vital that the signature is performed by the candidate themselves, as any discrepancy during the exam may lead to disqualification.
In addition to the image guidelines, candidates are required to utilize DigiLocker as part of the application process. Applicants must log in to their DigiLocker account and create a dedicated folder named 'GATE2027'. It is necessary to set the consent duration to three years, thereby granting the required access to the folder. Furthermore, candidates should ensure that their identification documents, particularly the PAN card, are verified by the Income Tax Department to avoid issues during the submission phase. By following these technical protocols, candidates can ensure their GATE 2027 application is processed without unnecessary delays or errors.
