Hindu College, affiliated with Delhi University, has inaugurated India's first undergraduate-focused Public Policy Lab. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic scholarship and practical governance, giving a new generation of policy thinkers and practitioners.A Milestone in Academic InnovationThe Public Policy Lab was officially inaugurated by BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, on April 17, 2025. He emphasized the lab's significance in India's aspiration to become a $30 trillion economy, stating, "As India aims to become the world's third-largest economy, we need knowledge institutions that not only educate but also innovate. This lab will place Hindu College at the center of India's policy discourse.Collaborative Efforts and VisionThe establishment of the lab is a collaborative effort, supported under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) and Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL). Manoj Kumar Dubey, CMD & CEO of IRFC, highlighted the lab as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat', stating, Our collaboration with Hindu College is an investment in the policy architects of tomorrow.Academic Leadership and Future ProspectsPrincipal Anju Srivastava described the lab as a "historic academic milestone for Hindu College and the city of Delhi." She noted that the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, positioning Hindu College at the forefront of integrating research with actionable policy training. Professor B Venkatesh Kumar from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), serving as the lab's mentor, characterized it as "an ecosystem for evidence-based governance." He emphasized the lab's role in bridging the longstanding gap between academic theory and policymaking practice. The Public Policy Lab complements Hindu College's existing research infrastructure, including a 38,000-square-foot, four-story Research Centre equipped with advanced laboratories for sciences, social sciences, languages, and media. This facility underscores the college's commitment to fostering a comprehensive research environment for both faculty and students. The launch of the Public Policy Lab at Hindu College marks a significant step in integrating academic inquiry with practical policy application.
