Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced the MSc in Home Science programme from the academic session 2025. The course’s objective is to focus on community development and extension. It will have a duration of two years, and the syllabus will provide both practical and theoretical knowledge to work in sectors like healthcare, education, social welfare, and rural development.The new programme will be tutored under the School of Continuing Education and will be available in English through the Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode. Graduates in Home Science or any stream, including Social Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, and other disciplines who wish to work at the community level, can join this programme.Students will be equipped with academic knowledge of subjects related to community organisations, maternal and child health, gender, field research, and community organisations. Both academic knowledge and practical exposure will be imparted through this two-year programme.IGNOU MSc in Home Science: Registration, Fee & CreditsInterested and eligible candidates can apply online at the IGNOU Samarth Portal, i.e., ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. The IGNOU MSc in Home Science course fee is INR 7,000 annually, including registration and development charges for the programme.Students have to secure 80 credits to graduate from the programme.
