IIM Bangalore officially inaugurated the 23rd cohort of its Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) on August 19, 2026, welcoming 30 participants from diverse backgrounds in both government and non-government sectors. The ceremony was attended by the chief guest, faculty members, program representatives, and the new cohort, marking the commencement of a 14-month master’s program that will be conducted in a hybrid format. This year's participants bring a wealth of experience from various fields, including healthcare administration, banking, finance, and revenue services.
Dr. Anjana Dube, Chief Policy Officer at the Centre for Public Policy, IIM Bangalore, introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Sweta C. Saxena, former Director of the Gender, Poverty and Social Policy Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Dr. Dube encouraged participants to absorb the insights shared by Dr. Saxena, who delivered a compelling address titled "The Pathway from Economic Growth to Human Resilience through the Instrumentality of Public Policy." In her speech, Dr. Saxena emphasized the critical role of public policy in fostering economic growth and promoting inclusive development.
During her address, Dr. Saxena reflected on her research at UNESCAP, which has influenced her advocacy for a "pro-Planet, pro-People, pro-Profit" approach and the "Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)" initiative. She also shared her experiences in South Sudan, where she worked to stabilize the economy amid an oil revenue dispute. Dr. Saxena urged the participants to remain adaptable and equipped to tackle challenges using their mental acuity and professional skills.
Prof. Arnab Mukherji, Chairperson of the PGPPM, welcomed the new cohort and discussed the program's evolution across cultures. Prof. U. Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge of IIM Bangalore, highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing public service delivery and governance.
