New Delhi: IIT Delhi will launch a new four-year undergraduate course called B.Tech in Design starting from the academic year 2025–26. The course will be offered by the Department of Design.
To get into this course, students must first clear JEE Advanced. Along with that, they also need to qualify in UCEED, which is the Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design.
This course is specially made for students who are creative, sensitive to people’s needs, and interested in understanding both social and technical systems. The aim is to help them find smart design solutions to real-world challenges.
Students in this course will learn about new technologies, design thinking methods, research tools, teamwork, and communication skills.
It is a multi-subject course that brings together engineering and design. Students will be trained to explore problems deeply like engineers and also come up with original ideas like designers.
Since IIT Delhi has many departments in science, engineering, management, and social sciences, this new programme will also benefit from those areas. The design students will get to work and study with students from other branches too.
The course will include subjects from both design and other fields, just like other B.Tech programmes. This will help the design department work closely with other departments.
A major part of this programme will focus on product design. By the end of the course, students will be ready to use their design skills to solve problems in industries and in society.
