IIT Madras has announced significant updates regarding the GATE 2027 examination, particularly concerning the selection of test cities during the registration process. In a recent revision of the information bulletin, the institute revealed that candidates will now have the option to select up to six exam cities from the same GATE zone when filling out their application forms. This change marks an increase from the previous limit of three cities, allowing for greater flexibility in choosing preferred locations for the examination.The registration for GATE 2027 is set to commence on August 14, 2026, through the official GOAPS portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Candidates are encouraged to carefully review the list of available exam cities before completing their applications. To ensure a smooth registration process, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria and adhere to the deadlines specified on the official website. The last date for submitting applications without a late fee is September 21, 2026, while submissions with a late fee will be accepted until September 30, 2026.To register, candidates must first create an account on the GOAPS portal to generate an enrollment ID and password. Following this, they will need to log in and provide personal and educational details, select their preferred six test cities, and upload necessary documents, including a scanned photo and signature. It is important to note that foreign nationals and Indian citizens residing abroad can also apply for GATE 2027, but they must select examination cities located within India, as no international test centers will be available.The GATE 2027 examination is scheduled to take place on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027, in two shifts each day. Candidates should prepare the required documents ahead of the registration period, including a valid ID proof and any applicable category certificates. Notably, candidates from the OBC-NCL and EWS categories are not required to submit any category certificates during the application process.As the GATE 2027 registration date approaches, IIT Madras continues to provide updates and guidance for prospective candidates.
