The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced that the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will commence on August 14, 2026. Candidates interested in applying can access the application portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The registration will provide essential information regarding exam dates, eligibility criteria, and the DigiLocker process, which is mandatory for all applicants.To successfully register for GATE 2027, candidates must first sign up for DigiLocker and ensure their personal details are updated before the application window opens. The deadline for submitting the GATE exam form without a late fee is September 21, 2026, while the extended deadline with a late fee is September 30, 2026. It is crucial for candidates to complete the DigiLocker registration, as their information will be automatically retrieved during the GATE application process.The GATE 2027 examination will take place over six days, specifically on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. This computer-based test will cover 30 subject papers and will be conducted in two shifts each day. Candidates are advised to ensure that their DigiLocker account contains accurate information, including their name, email, mobile number, address, and ID number, as this data will be used during registration.Upon the release of the GATE exam form, candidates must create an account on the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) to generate their enrollment ID and password. The registration process involves logging in, providing necessary details, submitting live facial recognition data, and uploading required documents, including a valid ID, photograph, and signature. The registration fee varies by category, with female, SC/ST, and PwD candidates paying INR 1000 during the regular period, while all other candidates will pay INR 2000.Students in their third or final year of study, as well as those who have completed their bachelor's degree in relevant disciplines, are eligible to apply for GATE 2027. This includes candidates with degrees in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities. Additionally, Computer Science Engineering students can apply for the Robotics and Automation paper, either as a primary or secondary subject. Candidates must select at least three exam centers from the same zone when filling out their application, with the final allocation based on availability.
