To be eligible, applicants must have completed a Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Humanities, or Social Sciences. Eligibility for JRF is determined through the UGC National Eligibility Test, commonly known as UGC NET.
Minimum Marks Required
To qualify for JRF through UGC NET, candidates must have:
  • General category: At least 55 percent marks in the Master’s degree
  • Reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC, PwD): At least 50 percent marks
Final-year Master’s students are also eligible to apply, even if their results are awaited.
Age Limit for UGC NET JRF
There is an age limit for JRF eligibility:
  • Maximum age: 30 years for the General category
  • Age relaxation: Up to 5 years for SC, ST, OBC, PwD candidates
Additional age relaxation may be applicable for women and candidates with research experience, as per UGC norms.

How to Get JRF After Graduation

A simple pathway to JRF is as follows:
  • Complete graduation in Arts, Science, or Commerce
  • Enrol in a Master’s programme in your chosen subject
  • Prepare for the UGC NET JRF examination, focusing on subject knowledge and research aptitude
  • Apply for and qualify the examination
