2026 MCC Security Deposit Charges: Guidelines for Refundability in Government and Deemed Universities

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced new guidelines regarding the refundable security deposit for candidates participating in the NEET UG Counselling 2026. These rules outline the conditions under which candidates may forfeit their security deposit, particularly for those who do not join the allotted seats in Round 2 or later. Understanding these regulations is crucial for candidates as they navigate the counselling process, which includes both a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security deposit.

During the Round 1 registration, candidates are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee alongside a refundable security deposit. The security deposit varies based on the category of the candidate and the type of institution they are applying to. For instance, candidates applying to Government and Central Universities under the General category must pay a total of INR 11,000, while those in the SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories pay INR 5,500. In contrast, candidates applying to deemed universities face a total fee of INR 2,05,000.

The MCC has specified that the security deposit will only be refunded to eligible candidates after the completion of all counselling rounds. Refunds will be processed back to the original payment method used during registration. However, candidates should be aware that the deposit may be forfeited under several circumstances, including failing to join the allotted college after being assigned a seat in subsequent rounds or providing incorrect information during registration.

Additionally, the MCC has introduced a new concept termed "Exit with Forfeiture." This allows candidates who are allotted a seat in Round 2 or later but choose not to join the college to exit the counselling process, resulting in the forfeiture of their security deposit. It is important to note that once a candidate joins a seat after Round 3, they cannot resign or surrender that seat under any circumstances.

The refund process will commence only after all rounds of NEET UG Counselling 2026 are concluded. The MCC will issue a notification on its official portal to confirm the completion of counselling, after which the Financial Custodian will initiate refunds within 15 days. Candidates can expect the entire refund process to be finalized within 30 days of the notification, with transaction details provided on the MCC's official website. It is advisable for candidates, especially those opting for deemed universities, to thoroughly review the counselling rules to avoid any forfeiture of their security deposit.
