MHT CET 2026: Over 50,000 Engineering Seats Remain Vacant After Final CAP Round

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has concluded the four rounds of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for engineering programmes for the 2026 academic year. According to the latest data, 1,52,452 students have successfully secured seats across various engineering colleges in the state. This figure represents a 74.99% occupancy rate of the 2,03,293 seats that were made available through the centralised system.

The admission process, which began with online registrations on July 2, 2026, saw significant participation, with 2,45,646 students registering for the academic cycle. These students vied for spots across 380 engineering colleges affiliated with 17 public universities, covering a diverse range of 111 engineering disciplines.

Institutional and Management Quota Admissions

With the completion of the four CAP rounds, the focus has now shifted to filling the remaining vacancies. The CET Cell has confirmed that 50,841 seats are currently vacant and available for institutional-level admissions. Additionally, there are 15,683 seats designated under the management quota. These remaining spots are open for application until September 14, 2026, providing a final opportunity for students who were not allocated a seat during the earlier centralised rounds.

Computer Engineering continues to lead in popularity among students, accounting for 23,230 of the total admissions. Other high-demand branches include Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering. The data also highlights a growing interest in emerging fields, with significant enrollment numbers in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, as well as specialised tracks in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Regional and University Performance

Geographically, colleges in the Pune district recorded the highest intake, with 41,122 students securing admissions. Nagpur followed with 15,487 students, while Nashik, Kolhapur, and Mumbai Suburban districts also saw substantial enrollment figures. At the university level, institutions affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) reported the highest volume of admissions, totaling 53,973 students. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, and the University of Mumbai also featured prominently, reporting 30,909 and 25,358 admissions, respectively.

Students seeking admission through the institutional or management quota are advised to contact individual colleges directly to check for specific vacancy details and application procedures. All such admissions must be finalised by the September 14, 2026 deadline as stipulated by the CET Cell.
