NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar has brought serious allegations of malpractice to the forefront regarding the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) and the subsequent engineering admission process. During a recent media briefing, the legislator released audio and video footage from a sting operation, claiming that a network of agents is actively soliciting large sums of money from candidates to secure seats in prestigious engineering colleges.

According to the allegations presented by Pawar, these agents are reportedly demanding up to Rs 25 lakh from students. The claims suggest that this illicit network promises candidates scores exceeding the 99th percentile by allegedly manipulating examination centres and influencing the final results. Pawar stated that he was approached by educators and experts who provided him with evidence of these activities, prompting his call for a formal judicial inquiry into the integrity of the examination system.

CET Cell Response and Ongoing Investigation

In response to these public allegations, the CET Cell has officially addressed the situation. Commissioner Dilip Sardesai confirmed that the authorities have taken note of the sting operation footage and the associated claims. To ensure a thorough examination of the matter, the department has formed a dedicated task force tasked with reviewing the evidence provided.

The CET Cell has formally requested that those in possession of the recordings and other supporting evidence submit them to the department for verification. Commissioner Sardesai emphasized that the authorities are committed to assessing the authenticity of the claims and will initiate legal action should any wrongdoing be substantiated. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is already in place to investigate broader allegations concerning the manipulation of MHT-CET scores. The CET Cell maintains that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation to uphold the transparency of the state's engineering admission process.
