The National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh (NID AP), established in 2015, is a shining example of Indian design excellence. It is run by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and is based in Amaravati. NID AP, an Institute of National Importance, is dedicated to developing innovative ideas and creative minds in the design industry.Academic ProgramsNID AP offers a comprehensive four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program, structured to provide students with a solid foundation in design principles, followed by specialized training in their chosen discipline. The program begins with a one-year Foundation Program, introducing students to the fundamentals of design and helping them develop a multidisciplinary perspective. Subsequently, students delve into six semesters of specialized studies in one of the following areas:Communication Design: This specialization focuses on visual storytelling, encompassing graphic design, typography, branding, and digital media. Students learn to create compelling narratives that effectively communicate messages across various platforms.Industrial Design: Here, students are trained to design innovative products and systems that enhance user experience. Students explore fabric manipulation, garment construction, and sustainable practices to create culturally relevant and innovative designs.Each specialization is designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, fostering critical thinking and creativity.Admission ProcessAdmission to the B.Des program at NID AP is highly competitive and is conducted through the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT), a two-stage entrance examination comprising the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. Candidates must have completed their 10+2 education from any recognized board and meet the age criteria specified by the institute. Campus and FacilitiesIn early 2024, NID AP transitioned to its permanent 50-acre campus located in Sakhamuru Village, Thullur Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including design studios, workshops, a knowledge management center (library), and IT labs.
