The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced significant updates to the NEET UG 2026 counselling process, aimed at enhancing the experience for MBBS and BDS candidates. These changes, communicated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to all state counselling authorities, are designed to streamline the admission process, making it more efficient and transparent. A key focus of the new rules is to minimize the need for physical visits to colleges, allowing candidates to complete various counselling-related activities online.Among the most notable changes is the elimination of physical reporting for candidates seeking seat upgrades. Previously, candidates were required to visit their allotted colleges to complete admission formalities, even if they intended to upgrade their seats in subsequent counselling rounds. Under the revised guidelines, candidates who select the "Upgrade" or "Willing to Upgrade" options will have their seats secured in the counselling system without the need for in-person visits.Additionally, the MCC has introduced an online resignation process for candidates wishing to relinquish their allotted seats. Eligible candidates can now submit their resignation requests through the MCC counselling portal, eliminating the necessity to visit their respective medical colleges. This online facility will be available in accordance with the rules and schedules set for each round of NEET counselling.For candidates applying under the NRI quota for deemed universities, the new rules allow for the online upload of required documents directly through the MCC portal. This change is expected to expedite the verification process, which previously involved cumbersome offline procedures. The MCC aims to ensure a quicker and more transparent experience for NRI candidates, enhancing accessibility to the counselling process.To facilitate the smooth implementation of these updates, the MCC has initiated training sessions for state counselling authorities and medical institutions. Orientation programs were conducted for the State Directorates of Medical Education in May and June 2026, with additional sessions planned for both government and private medical colleges. Furthermore, the MCC has instructed authorities to provide candidates with clear and updated information regarding the NEET seat matrix and fee structures, ensuring that candidates can make informed decisions during the counselling process.
