Challenge to UGC NET Answer Key 2026: NTA States That a Single Valid Objection Could Alter Outcomes for Everyone

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a significant clarification regarding the objection process for the UGC NET June 2026 examination. In a recent statement shared on social media platform X, the NTA emphasized that the INR 200 fee for challenging the answer key is designed to promote fairness in the evaluation process rather than to generate revenue. Importantly, this fee is fully refundable if the objection is deemed valid, ensuring that candidates are not financially penalized for legitimate concerns.

This announcement comes in the wake of the NTA releasing provisional answer keys for 84 subjects related to the UGC NET June 2026 exam and opening a window for candidates to submit objections. The agency clarified that the objection system is structured to benefit all candidates, not just those who raise challenges. If a single candidate identifies a valid error in a question or answer key, the NTA will review the objection with the help of subject experts. Should the challenge be accepted, the revised answer key will be applied uniformly to all candidates who took the exam, eliminating the need for multiple submissions for the same issue.

The NTA further explained that the INR 200 fee per question is intended to deter frivolous objections and ensure that only well-supported challenges are presented. This approach aims to maintain the integrity of the examination process while allowing for necessary corrections that could impact the evaluation of thousands of students nationwide. The agency reiterated that the fee is not a profit-making measure but a means to uphold the quality of the examination.

Alongside the provisional answer keys, the NTA has also released the question papers and response sheets, enabling candidates to verify their answers and estimate their potential scores. The expected cutoff marks for the UGC NET 2026 are projected to range between 216 and 160 across various subjects and categories. The official cutoff marks will be announced following the declaration of results, with candidates needing to meet or exceed these marks to qualify for further recruitment processes.
