The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a re-examination for the UGC NET June 2026 in the subjects of English, Commerce, and Sociology due to multiple errors identified in the original question papers. The re-exams are scheduled for September 2026, and candidates will not incur any additional fees for participating in these assessments. This decision follows a thorough review by a committee formed in response to numerous complaints regarding inaccuracies in the initial exam.

The original UGC NET June 2026 exam took place from June 22 to June 30, covering 87 subjects for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), eligibility for Assistant Professor positions, and admission to PhD programs. The re-examination dates are set for September 9, 2026, for English (Shift 1 from 9 AM to 12 Noon) and Commerce (Shift 2 from 3 PM to 6 PM), with Sociology scheduled for September 10, 2026, in the same morning shift.

Following the complaints, the committee discovered various issues, including factual inaccuracies, typographical errors, and translation mistakes. Specific problems included misspelled names of scholars, incorrect book titles, poorly worded questions, grammatical errors, and inconsistencies in gender and number agreement. Additionally, some questions were found to have been repeated from previous exams, raising concerns about the integrity of the assessment.

The NTA has assured candidates that the re-examination of these three subjects will not affect the results for the remaining 84 subjects. The qualifying criteria for Assistant Professor eligibility will remain consistent, with 6% of candidates who appeared in the June 2026 exam or the re-test qualifying, whichever number is higher. The allocation of JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility, and PhD admissions will adhere to the guidelines outlined in the UGC NET Information Bulletin.

Looking ahead, the NTA is expected to release the notification for the December 2026 session in PDF format, along with the registration details. This notification will be available on the official NTA website. Additionally, the UGC NET City Intimation Slip will be provided to candidates to assist with travel arrangements, although it is not the official admit card. The NTA has emphasized that the number of qualifying candidates and seats allocated for the affected subjects will remain unchanged following the re-examination.
