The release of the provisional answer key for the UGC NET June 2026 examination has been delayed by over a month, leaving more than 10 lakh candidates in a state of uncertainty. Typically, the National Testing Agency (NTA) publishes the answer key within two weeks of the exam, but this year, the key has yet to be made available despite the examination concluding on June 30. The prolonged wait has raised concerns among candidates who are eager to check their responses, calculate their probable scores, and prepare for subsequent stages of admissions and recruitment.

The UGC NET 2026 examination was conducted from June 22 to June 30, with a few selected papers held on July 5. This assessment is crucial as it determines eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor positions, as well as admission to PhD programs across universities and colleges in India. In previous cycles, the NTA has been prompt in releasing the provisional answer key, with the June 2023 session seeing the key published just five days post-exam. The current delay, however, marks one of the longest waiting periods in recent history.

The delay has prompted various student organizations and college unions to seek clarification from the NTA regarding the status of the answer key. Candidates are particularly anxious to verify their responses and assess their performance in the examination. The NTA has indicated that the provisional answer key will be released shortly after the conclusion of the exam, along with the question paper and response sheets, which are essential for candidates to estimate their scores.

To access the UGC NET result for the June session, candidates will need to visit the official portal at ugcnet.nta.nic.in and provide their login credentials, including their application number and date of birth. The NTA is expected to release the provisional answer key soon, and candidates will require their application number, date of birth, or password, along with a security pin, to download it.

Concerns have also been raised on social media regarding the examination, with some candidates alleging that the Sociology paper contained repetitive questions and potential errors. Reports suggest that these issues may have prompted the Ministry of Education to request the NTA to investigate, possibly contributing to the delay in releasing the answer key. While this is not the first instance of a delayed answer key—similar delays were experienced during the UGC NET December session—the lack of an official statement from the NTA regarding the current situation has left many candidates frustrated.
