Annamalai University Chidambaram History:

• One of the oldest universities in South India, covering 1000 acres, established on January 1, 1929.
• Founded by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, a philanthropist and visionary.
• Established with the primary aim of promoting the Tamil Language and Literature, uniting three pre-existing institutions.
• In 1928, Rajah Sir S. RM. Annamalai Chettiar merged three of his founded institutions (from the early 1920s)—Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College, and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College—to create a university.
