The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) Cell is currently drafting a new standard operating procedure (SOP) that could significantly alter how examination centres are assigned for the 2027 session. Under the proposed changes, the current system allowing candidates to select their preferred districts for examination centres may be discontinued in favour of a more automated allocation process.
The primary proposal under consideration involves linking the allotment of exam centres directly to the PIN code of the college where a candidate completed their Class 12 education. This initiative is being developed by the CET Cell and is expected to be submitted to the Higher and Technical Education (DHE) Department of Maharashtra for formal review and approval within the coming week.
The shift in policy is primarily aimed at enhancing the integrity and transparency of the examination process. According to reports, the CET Cell has observed trends where candidates from major educational hubs, such as Mumbai and Pune, have opted for test centres in distant districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, or Chandrapur. There have been concerns that such choices are made to exploit perceived variations in the stringency of examination supervision in different regions.
By mandating that centres be assigned based on the location of a student's Class 12 institution, the authorities intend to curb potential malpractices and ensure a more uniform testing environment. Additionally, this change is expected to reduce the logistical burden on students by discouraging unnecessary long-distance travel to remote examination centres.
While the proposal suggests a move toward a location-linked system, the CET Cell has indicated that it remains sensitive to the needs of students with genuine requirements. Provisions are being discussed to accommodate candidates who may have valid reasons for requesting a centre outside their college district. Under these potential guidelines, students might be able to request an alternative centre based on the PIN code associated with their Aadhaar card address.
Furthermore, the proposed SOP includes considerations for students facing specific medical emergencies, which may allow for alternative centre arrangements. It is important to note that these changes are currently in the proposal stage and have not yet been finalized. The final implementation of this new allotment process remains subject to the approval of the Higher and Technical Education Department. Students are advised to await further official announcements from the CET Cell regarding the finalized examination procedures for the 2027 cycle.
