IIST - Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology

Founded in 2007, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, commonly referred to as IIST Trivandrum, is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. IIST Trivandrum is recognized as a UGC-recognised Deemed-to-be University and operates as an autonomous entity under the Department of Space, Government of India. All academic programs at IIST Trivandrum are sanctioned by AICTE. The institute was established to provide high-quality education at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels in the fields of space sciences, space technology, and space applications.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the distinguished technocrat and former President of India, served as the first Chancellor of IIST Trivandrum, followed by Prof. U.R. Rao, a prominent space scientist and former Chairman of ISRO, as the second Chancellor. Since its establishment, IIST Trivandrum has flourished under the mentorship of numerous esteemed scientists and visionaries. In 2023, IIST Trivandrum achieved a ranking of 48th by the NIRF in the engineering category.

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Trivandrum has formed several MoUs with international universities and organizations, including the University of Caltech, the University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the Danish Aerospace Company, among others.

IIST Trivandrum provides full-time BTech, MTech, MSc, and dual-degree programs at both UG and PG levels across various disciplines, such as Aerospace Engineering, Earth & Space Sciences, Physics, Avionics, and more.
