Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, is a Central University under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. Founded in 1985 with technical assistance from the United Nations, IMU is the only institution in the country offering quality education in Marine Engineering, Nautical Sciences, Port and Shipping Management, and related areas. The University provides nearly 10 courses at UG, PG, and doctoral levels.

Step 1: Indian Maritime University Application Process 2024

The admission process at Indian Maritime University begins with the application procedure. Candidates must visit the official IMU website to register online. The application form should be downloaded from the website and filled out with accurate information. The application and entrance test fees must be paid online, and candidates need to attach the payment receipt with the application form. The completed application form, along with necessary documents and proof of payment, should be submitted online through the university's website.

Step 2: Selection Rounds

Admission to various courses at Indian Maritime University requires candidates to meet specific eligibility criteria and pass entrance exams. For BE/BTech, candidates must have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification with a minimum average of 60% in PCM and at least 50% marks in English in either Class 10 or Class 12, and must qualify through IMU CET, TNEA, or JEE Main. For ME/MTech, a BTech degree with 55% marks and qualification through CEETA is necessary. For BBA, Class 12 with 50% marks and qualification through IMU CET is required. For MBA/PGDM, a graduation degree with 50% marks and qualification through TANCET or IMU CET is needed. For UG Diploma, Class 12 with 60% marks and qualification through IMU CET is required.

Step 3: Merit List Release & Counselling

After completing all selection rounds, candidates must participate in the counselling process for their respective courses. The university will publish the merit list in several rounds of selected candidates. Students whose names appear on the merit list must register for counselling on the university portal, which will open following the release of IMU CET results. Candidates must secure their seats by paying the required fee, following the seat allocation and confirmation process, and participating in certificate verification. Classes will commence thereafter.

For MBA programmes, candidates applying based on CAT/MAT/CMAT scores, and for M.Tech programmes based on GATE/CUET (PG)/PGCET scores, need to register for counselling. For Ph.D., M.S (By Research), and Integrated Ph.D. programmes, a separate offline exam and interview will be conducted, with details to be announced on the IMU website. Candidates applying based on CUET scores for UG programmes (excluding BBA) must register for spot counselling, with information to be provided after the release of the third list.
