IMU, Navi Mumbai was previously recognized as the Training Ship Chanakya, established in 1927 as India's first pre-sea training institute. It is the oldest and most prestigious institute not only in India but throughout South-East Asia. In 2008, it became part of IMU and was designated as the Navi Mumbai campus in 2017. This shore-based academy spans an area of 40 acres along the Palm Beach Highway in Navi Mumbai. The University offers more than 10 courses at the UG, PG, and PhD levels across various disciplines related to Maritime Studies. Its placement rate is around 70%, with major companies such as TCS, Adani Ports, Dredging Corporation of India Limited, and Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited visiting the campus to recruit students. The University has also established MoUs with several international universities/institutes to foster mutual growth opportunities. Notable partnerships include Plymouth University, Admiral GI Nevelskoi Maritime State University, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, and Southampton Solent University.
