IMU - IMU Navi Mumbai Indian Maritime University

Previously referred to as the Training Ship Chanakya, Indian Maritime University (IMU), Navi Mumbai adopted its current name in 2017. However, the training academy was granted IMU's status earlier in 2008. It stands as the first pre-sea training institution in India. The University is recognized by the UGC and operates under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The training programs at IMU Navi Mumbai are crafted to instill officer-like qualities and a strong sense of discipline among the cadets/students. Physical training is a crucial component of the curriculum to ensure they remain fit and ready to embark on a challenging and adventurous career at sea. The University provides various courses at the UG, PG, and doctorate levels across disciplines related to Maritime Studies.

The University also reserves 5% of seats for PwD candidates in the MSc program. Additionally, there are reserved seats in UG programs for students from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands, the eight northeastern states (including Sikkim), and Jammu & Kashmir. The total number of seats allocated for the 'Special States' across all IMU campuses in a given academic year is as follows:
