The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Kannur is a government institution that was founded in 2008 and moved to its permanent campus in 2012. The infrastructure of NIFT Kannur includes an eight-story building provided by the State Government of Kerala. As a result, the design school offers 20% supernumerary seats for candidates who are state domicile residents of Kerala. The institute provides BDes and BFTech programs at the undergraduate level, as well as MDes and MFM programs at the postgraduate level, along with Continuing Education Programme (CEP) offerings in various specializations such as Photo Journalism, Basic Calligraphy, Home Furnishing Production & Fashion Technology, Fashion Fundamentals, Apparel Export Merchandising, and Apparel Costing across Design and Technology streams.
NIFT was ranked 16th for Fashion Design by Outlook in 2019. Currently, NIFT has 18 campuses located throughout the country, including NIFT Delhi, NIFT Bengaluru, NIFT Chennai, NIFT Gandhinagar, NIFT Hyderabad, and NIFT Kolkata, among others. Admissions are based on the national-level entrance examination conducted by NIFT, known as the NIFT Entrance Exam. The college features an auditorium with a seating capacity of 400 people. NIFT Kannur provides on-campus hostel facilities exclusively for female students.
