- The college's origins date back to 1920, when seven prominent businessmen, led by Sir Shri Ram, established the Commercial Education Trust in Delhi on the day of Basant Panchmi. That same year, the trust founded ‘The Commercial School’ at Charkhewalan in Delhi, offering a Post-Matriculation Diploma Programme in Commerce.
- The first cohort of students at The Commercial College was enrolled on the first floor of a hall opposite St. James Church at Kashmere Gate. This initial batch consisted of twelve students and four faculty members, operating from a rented bungalow in Darya Ganj, New Delhi.
- In 1926, the Commercial College became affiliated with the University of Delhi, and six years later, it was elevated to the status of a Degree College.
- In 1943, the college introduced BA (Hons) and MA (Economics) programs, followed by a Master’s degree in Commerce in 1948.
- In 1951, during its Silver Jubilee, the Commercial College specialized in commerce and economics. By 1954, the college had fully relocated to its current campus in the North Campus of the University of Delhi.
