The Bar Council of India (BCI) has officially clarified the eligibility requirements for the upcoming All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 22, confirming that an enrollment certificate from a State Bar Council is not a mandatory prerequisite for registration. This policy update is intended to streamline the application process for a broader range of law graduates and students who meet the revised criteria set by the council for the 2026 session.

Registration for AIBE 22 commenced on August 19, 2026, and the council has set a deadline of October 27, 2026, for all interested candidates to submit their applications. Following the registration period, the examination is scheduled to take place on November 29, 2026. Candidates intending to sit for the exam are encouraged to review the updated guidelines to ensure they provide the necessary documentation during the application process.

Revised Eligibility Criteria for AIBE 22 Applicants

Under the current BCI regulations, several categories of candidates are permitted to register for the examination without possessing a State Bar Council enrollment certificate. This includes students currently in their final year or final semester of an LLB program, provided they have no pending backlogs. Additionally, law graduates who are still awaiting their formal degree certificates are eligible to apply under these revised provisions.

The relaxation also extends to graduates who have successfully completed their LLB degree but have not yet enrolled with any State Bar Council. Furthermore, individuals who previously held an enrollment certificate but have since surrendered it are also eligible to register for the AIBE 22 session. While the enrollment certificate is not required for the initial registration, applicants falling into these categories must submit a formal undertaking along with the required supporting documentation to validate their eligibility status during the application process.
