ICSE and ISC Examinations 2028: Internal Assessment in Health & Physical Education to Be Mandatory

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced the introduction of Health and Physical Education as a mandatory internal assessment component for both the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations. This new requirement will take effect from the Examination Year 2028, marking a significant shift in the assessment framework for students in these programs.

Beginning with the academic year 2026-27, students enrolling in Classes 9 and 11 will be required to participate in this internal assessment, which will be reflected in their Board Examinations in 2028. This initiative aligns with the recommendations set forth in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023, emphasizing the importance of health and physical education in the overall development of students.

It is important to note that there will be no changes to the existing scheme of studies for candidates preparing for the ICSE and ISC Board Examinations in 2027. The CISCE has also released specimen question papers for the ICSE, which are designed to help students familiarize themselves with the examination format and expectations.

Health and Physical Education will be assessed continuously throughout the academic year, ensuring that students engage with the subject matter in a meaningful way. Additionally, students will still have the option to choose Physical Education as an elective subject at both the ICSE and ISC levels, which will remain separate from the compulsory internal assessment.

This development is part of a broader effort to enhance the educational experience and promote holistic learning among students.
