The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, has officially opened the application process for candidates seeking incentive weightage marks during the NEET PG 2026 counselling session. This provision is specifically designed for medical professionals who have completed service in designated remote and difficult areas of the state, allowing them to claim additional marks toward their postgraduate admission process.

To be eligible for this incentive, candidates must have secured the mandatory cutoff scores in the NEET-PG 2026 examination. The initiative aligns with the Medical Colleges of Assam Rules, 2021, which aim to recognise the contributions of doctors who have served in challenging geographical locations under the state health department, the National Health Mission (NHM), or other public authorities.

Application Process and Eligibility Criteria

Candidates intending to claim this weightage must submit their applications in the prescribed format directly to the DME office. It is important to note that the submission process requires physical delivery of documents to the office, as online submissions are not specified for this particular incentive claim. The deadline for all applications is October 15, 2026, and the authority has confirmed that no submissions will be accepted after this date.

Under the current guidelines, doctors who have served continuously for at least one year in certified remote or difficult areas are eligible for an incentive of 3% of the marks obtained in the NEET-PG entrance exam for each year of service. The policy caps the total incentive at 9% for those who have completed three or more years of service in these regions.

The DME has clearly defined the areas that qualify for this incentive. These include the hill districts of North Cachar Hills and Karbi Anglong. Additionally, specific regions such as the Majuli District, Dhemaji District, South Salmara District, Sadia Sub-division, and Dhakuakhana Sub-division are recognised under the state's remote area criteria. Candidates are encouraged to review the official notification on the DME Assam website to ensure their service records meet the specific requirements before the October 15 deadline.
