GATE 2027 Registration Begins Today: How to Apply via GOAPS Portal

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is scheduled to commence the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 today. Aspiring candidates can access the application portal, known as the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), on or before 7:00 pm via the official website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

This year, the application process incorporates a digital integration with DigiLocker to simplify data verification. Candidates are advised to ensure their DigiLocker accounts are updated with accurate personal details, including their name, email address, mobile number, and verified identification documents, before initiating their application.

Application Process and DigiLocker Integration

To facilitate a smoother registration experience, IIT Madras has introduced a specific workflow requiring candidates to link their DigiLocker accounts. Applicants are encouraged to create a dedicated folder within their DigiLocker titled “GATE2027” and upload all necessary supporting documents in advance. When applying, candidates will select the “Continue with DigiLocker” option on the official website, allowing the system to fetch verified details directly to populate their application form.

Once the initial data is retrieved from DigiLocker, an enrollment ID and password will be generated. Candidates must then log in using these credentials to complete the remaining sections of the form, provide facial verification details, and process the application fee payment. After successful submission, applicants should download the confirmation page for their records.

Important Dates and Exam Details

The application window for GATE 2027 is now open, with the deadline for submissions without a late fee set for September 27, 2026. For those who miss the initial window, an extended period with a late fee will remain open until October 5, 2026. The examination is currently scheduled to be conducted over several days in February 2027, specifically on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21.

Eligibility for the examination extends to students currently in their third or final year of undergraduate studies, as well as those who have already completed degrees in engineering, technology, science, architecture, or arts and humanities. During the application process, candidates will be required to select at least six preferred examination cities from the zone-wise list provided on the official portal. As the registration link goes live, candidates are encouraged to review the instructions carefully to ensure all information provided matches their official documentation.
