The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has announced a revised schedule for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027. The online registration process for the entrance examination is now set to commence on September 12, 2026, shifting from the previously communicated date of September 5. Prospective candidates will have a one-month window to submit their applications, with the portal remaining open until October 12, 2026.
As the organising institute for this year's cycle, IIT Kharagpur has released the official information brochure, which outlines the comprehensive guidelines for the examination, including eligibility criteria, the application procedure, fee structures, and admission policies. All applications must be submitted exclusively through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) portal, accessible via the official website at jam.iitkgp.ac.in.
To be eligible for the examination, candidates must have either completed an undergraduate degree or be currently enrolled in the final year of their qualifying programme in 2027. The examination is open to students holding degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom, BStat, BMath, BTech, BE, or equivalent qualifications, provided they meet the specific requirements of the programme they intend to pursue. Academic performance thresholds are set at a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or a 5.5 CGPA/CPI for General and OBC-NCL candidates, while SC, ST, and PwD candidates must hold at least 50% marks or a 5.0 CGPA/CPI.
Candidates who have been promoted in their qualifying exams without a formal marksheet must provide a valid promotion certificate or equivalent documentation to verify their academic standing. It is important to note that securing a qualifying score in the JAM does not guarantee admission; applicants must still satisfy the specific criteria set by the individual IIT or participating institution to which they are applying. Before beginning the registration process, applicants should prepare digital copies of their Class 10 certificate, a recent passport-size photograph, their signature, and any applicable category or PwD certificates.
The application fee for IIT JAM 2027 is determined by the candidate's category and the number of test papers selected. For those in the female, SC, ST, or PwD categories, the fee is INR 1000 for one paper and INR 1350 for two papers. For all other candidates, the fee is set at INR 2000 for one paper and INR 2700 for two papers. The registration process requires candidates to create login credentials on the JOAPS portal, provide personal and academic details, select their preferred test papers and examination cities, upload the necessary documents, and complete the online payment.
The IIT JAM 2027 examination is scheduled to take place on February 14, 2027. The test will feature seven distinct papers, and candidates are permitted to appear for up to two papers, provided they adhere to the session combination rules established by the organising committee.
