IIT Jammu Awards 420 Degrees During 7th Convocation Ceremony

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu recently hosted its 7th convocation ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the graduating class of 2026. During the formal event, the institute conferred a total of 420 degrees to students across a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, celebrating their academic achievements and transition into their professional careers.

The distribution of degrees reflected the institute's academic breadth, comprising 209 BTech degrees, 124 MTech degrees, 23 MSc degrees, and 64 PhD degrees. The ceremony was presided over by Shankar M. Venugopal, Vice President of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Mahindra Research Valley, who served as the chief guest. Amitabh Ranjan, Vice Chairman of Pan IIT Alumni India, also attended the proceedings as the guest of honour.

Academic Excellence and Award Recipients

Beyond the conferment of degrees, the convocation served as a platform to recognise students who demonstrated exceptional academic performance. Several prestigious medals were awarded to graduates who achieved the highest cumulative grade point averages (CGPA) or displayed outstanding overall performance within their respective departments.

In the undergraduate category, Vivek Kumar Shandilya from the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering was honoured with the President’s Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA among BTech graduates. The Director’s Gold Medal, awarded for the best overall performance, was presented to Ayush Raj from the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Postgraduate achievements were similarly celebrated, with Mohammad Shamsul Haq from the MTech Civil Engineering programme and Sheikh Aabid Nisar from the MSc Chemistry programme receiving Institute Gold Medals for securing the highest CGPA in their respective cohorts. The ceremony also saw the distribution of silver medals to students who attained the highest CGPA in their specific branches of study. BTech silver medal recipients included Ayush Raj, Khushboo, Chaitanya Tandon, Nageshwar Kumar, and Harshit Beri. Furthermore, silver medals for postgraduate programmes were awarded to Shivangi Sharma, Anshu Kumari, Sandeep Kumar, Binod Kumar, and Akshita.
