The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially launched a new certification program focused on the audit of digital systems, developed in collaboration with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). The course, titled Certification on Audit of Digital Systems (CADS), is being hosted on the SWAYAM Plus platform to provide specialized training in the evaluation of modern digital infrastructure.
Designed as a four-month foundation-level program, the course aims to equip students and professionals with the necessary skills to assess digital systems used by both government bodies and private organizations. As institutions increasingly integrate artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data-driven services into their operations, the program seeks to address the rising demand for experts capable of ensuring the security, privacy, and accountability of these complex technologies.
The CADS curriculum is structured around six core areas, beginning with the fundamentals of public audit. The syllabus further expands into specialized topics, including information technology, cybersecurity, information systems, digital public platforms, privacy, and artificial intelligence. By combining academic theory with practical application, the program utilizes case studies and audit scenarios to prepare learners for real-world industry requirements.
The course is delivered entirely online through the IITM Pravartak Learning Management System. It is open to any candidate who is currently pursuing or has already completed an undergraduate degree in India. In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit Framework (NCrF), the program ensures that learners receive a structured education that meets contemporary academic standards.
While the instructional component of the program is conducted online, the assessment process requires physical presence. Students will be evaluated through proctored, computer-based tests (CBTs) to ensure the integrity of the certification process. The curriculum itself was developed through a joint effort between domain experts from IIT Madras, the CAG, and IITM Pravartak.
The initiative is particularly aimed at individuals interested in the intersection of technology, governance, and auditing. By providing a comprehensive understanding of how to evaluate digital systems from the perspectives of security and governance, the program intends to bridge the gap between emerging technological adoption and the need for rigorous oversight in the digital age.
