The National Testing Agency (NTA) is anticipated to initiate the registration process for the JEE Main 2027 examination during the final week of October 2026. While an official date for the opening of the application portal has not yet been confirmed, students aiming to participate in the upcoming engineering entrance cycle should prepare for the commencement of the registration window in the coming weeks.
This initial phase of the examination, known as Session 1, is a critical milestone for candidates seeking admission into premier engineering institutions. As the application window approaches, prospective candidates are advised to ensure their necessary documentation is in order to facilitate a smooth registration experience once the portal goes live.
The NTA has already formalised the schedule for the first session of the JEE Main 2027. The examinations are slated to be conducted on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, and 30, 2027, with January 31, 2027, designated as a buffer date. Candidates will be assigned specific exam dates, shifts, and centres, which will be detailed on their respective admit cards closer to the examination period.
The assessment will be administered in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, covering the core subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for those appearing for the BE/BTech papers. Given that the examination is held across multiple shifts, the NTA will employ a standard normalisation process to ensure fairness in the final results, accounting for any variations in the difficulty levels of individual papers.
With the January examination dates approaching, academic experts suggest that students shift their focus toward comprehensive syllabus completion and intensive revision. Engaging with previous years' question papers is highly recommended, as it provides valuable insight into the examination pattern and the types of questions typically featured. Furthermore, mastering time management is essential, particularly for sections involving complex calculations in Mathematics and Physics. Regular practice with full-length mock tests can help students develop the ability to identify and skip time-consuming questions, thereby enhancing both speed and overall accuracy.
To prepare for the upcoming registration, candidates should gather essential documents, including recent photographs, signatures, and identification details. While Aadhaar is a common form of identification, the NTA has historically provided options for candidates to authenticate their identity using alternative government-issued documents if they do not possess or prefer not to use Aadhaar. Students are encouraged to monitor the official NTA website for the formal notification regarding the exact registration start date and the comprehensive information bulletin.
