The Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE) is yet to announce a revised date for the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (Maha TET) 2026. The delay follows the cancellation of the original examination, which was scheduled for June 28, 2026, but was called off just one day prior due to allegations of a question paper leak. Consequently, approximately 600,125 registered candidates remain in a state of uncertainty regarding their next steps.
The primary factor contributing to the delay is an ongoing deliberation within the state government regarding the mode of the examination. While there have been discussions about transitioning to an online format to prevent future security breaches, no formal approval has been granted. Officials have indicated that once a final decision on the exam mode is reached, a minimum of three months will be required to complete the necessary logistical preparations for the re-test.
According to reports, the MSCE has suggested that the re-examination could potentially take place in December 2026 or January 2027. However, these timelines remain speculative until the government officially confirms the procedure. Following the cancellation of the June exam, the MSCE successfully retrieved nearly all blank answer sheets from the 37 designated district planning centres, marking the conclusion of the immediate post-cancellation administrative process.
The lack of a confirmed schedule has caused significant concern among the candidate pool, which includes a substantial number of in-service teachers. These educators are particularly anxious due to a Supreme Court mandate that requires all serving teachers to successfully clear the Teacher Eligibility Test by August 2028. For these professionals, the timely conduct of the Maha TET is critical to meeting their regulatory requirements. As it stands, candidates are waiting for the state government to finalize the examination mode and release an official notification regarding the revised schedule to allow for adequate preparation.
