The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) has officially announced a revision to its examination pattern for students in classes 9 through 12. These changes, which are set to take effect from the 2026-27 academic session, follow decisions made by the board’s Curriculum Committee in August 2025 and subsequent approval by the Executive Committee.
Under the updated guidelines, the board has modified the structure of internal choices within question papers. Most notably, students appearing for main subject examinations will no longer have internal choices for 2-mark questions. However, the board has confirmed that internal choice options will remain available for 3-mark and 4-mark questions in these subjects. Conversely, for subjects falling under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), the board has introduced new internal choice options for 5-mark and 7-mark questions.
The adjustments to the question paper format are designed to streamline the assessment process across all secondary and higher secondary levels. For main subjects, the removal of internal choices for 2-mark questions represents a shift in how short-answer responses are evaluated. Students preparing for the upcoming board examinations are advised to familiarize themselves with these specific changes to their respective subject papers.
The MPBSE has also confirmed the examination schedules for the 2027 academic year. For class 10 students, the examinations are slated to begin on February 24, 2027, with subjects including Marathi, Gujarati, and various vocational papers, concluding with Social Science on March 18, 2027. Class 12 examinations are scheduled to commence on February 17, 2027, and will run through March 19, 2027. Additionally, practical examinations for class 12 are slated to take place between February 1 and March 19, 2027.
The revised pattern applies to all students across classes 9, 10, 11, and 12. As the board transitions to this new format, students are encouraged to adjust their study strategies to account for the removal of choices in shorter-answer questions. The board maintains a diverse question format, including multiple-choice questions (MCQs), very short, short, and long-answer types, particularly for class 10, where subjects like Mathematics and Science may also require diagrams and problem-solving skills.
These changes were finalized following a series of administrative reviews, starting with the Curriculum Committee meeting on August 20, 2025, and concluding with the Executive Committee's approval on August 28, 2025. Students are encouraged to keep track of official notifications regarding their specific course requirements as the 2026-27 academic year progresses.
