The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially reopened the seat resignation and withdrawal window for candidates participating in the NEET UG 2026 counselling process. This decision follows a series of requests from students seeking to vacate seats allotted during the first and second rounds of the admission process.

The facility is specifically intended for candidates who accepted seats under the 'Freeze' or 'Float' options during the initial rounds and whose status remained unchanged by subsequent upgrades. This window provides a final opportunity for these students to withdraw from their current allocations before the counselling process progresses further.

Important Deadlines and Resignation Procedures

According to the official notification issued by the MCC, the resignation portal will be active starting from 3:30 PM on September 17, 2026. Candidates have until 6:00 PM on September 18, 2026, to complete the necessary formalities. It is important to note that any resignation or withdrawal of a seat will result in the mandatory forfeiture of the candidate's security deposit.

The procedure for resignation varies depending on the candidate's current status. Those who opted for the 'Freeze' option and wish to resign must physically report to their allotted medical institution to complete the process. Conversely, candidates who opted for the 'Float' option and did not receive an upgrade are required to complete their withdrawal through the official MCC portal. These candidates must log in to their counselling accounts, finalize the withdrawal, and generate a formal Seat Withdrawal Slip.

Guidelines for Valid Seat Withdrawal

The MCC has emphasized that the generation of the Seat Withdrawal Slip is a critical step in the process. If a candidate fails to generate this slip through the portal, the resignation will be considered 'Null and Void,' and the seat will remain allocated to them. The committee has advised students to retain this slip as official proof of their resignation.

Once a seat is successfully withdrawn, the candidate will lose all claims to that specific allotment. Given the finality of this decision, the MCC has urged students to carefully consider their options before proceeding. By providing this window, the authorities aim to address the concerns of candidates who have joined an institute but now wish to withdraw, ensuring that the remaining counselling rounds proceed with accurate vacancy data.
