The Ministry of Education has officially announced an extension for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) 2026-27 application process. Students who are interested in applying for this financial assistance program now have until September 30, 2026, to complete and submit their registration forms online.

This extension provides additional time for candidates to navigate the application process on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The application window, which initially opened on June 1, 2026, has been extended to ensure that all eligible students have sufficient opportunity to complete their submissions and avoid potential technical issues or delays during the final stages of the process.

Application Process and Verification Deadlines

Before proceeding with the scholarship application, students are required to complete a One-Time Registration (OTR) on the official portal. Once the registration is finalized, applicants can submit their details for the NMMSS, which provides selected meritorious students with annual financial support amounting to INR 12,000.

Following the submission of applications, the process moves into a mandatory two-stage verification phase. The first stage involves verification by school authorities at the institute level, known as L1-INO, which must be completed by October 15, 2026. Once the school verifies the data, the application is forwarded for the second stage of scrutiny.

The final district-level verification, referred to as L2-DNO, is scheduled to conclude by October 31, 2026. Officials have advised students to monitor their application status closely, as any errors identified during these verification stages must be addressed and corrected promptly to ensure the application remains valid for the scholarship award.
