The National Testing Agency (NTA) is reportedly evaluating significant modifications to the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2027 exam pattern. These proposed adjustments aim to simplify the testing process, reduce the logistical burden on students, and make the overall examination experience more efficient. While the broader exam window is expected to span 12 to 15 days, the primary objective is to transition toward a model that allows candidates to complete all their chosen subject tests within a single day.

Currently, the scheduling of various subjects across multiple dates often requires students to visit examination centres repeatedly, leading to increased travel costs and heightened stress. By implementing a single-day exam slot for each candidate, the NTA intends to mitigate these challenges. However, it is important to note that these plans are currently under review, and official guidelines and final approvals from the relevant higher authorities are still pending.

Proposed Changes to Exam Duration and Question Format

In addition to the scheduling shift, the NTA is considering adjustments to the time allotted per subject and the total volume of questions. Under the current structure, students are provided 60 minutes for each subject paper. The new proposal suggests reducing this duration to between 40 and 45 minutes per subject. Consequently, the number of questions per paper is expected to be adjusted downward, potentially moving from the current 50 questions to a range of 35 to 40 questions.

Furthermore, discussions are underway regarding the total number of subjects a candidate may select. While students are currently permitted to choose up to five subjects, authorities are reviewing a proposal to cap this limit at four. Should this change be adopted, a student taking four papers of 40 minutes each would be able to complete their entire examination in approximately 160 minutes, or less than three hours. These potential revisions remain in the proposal stage, and students are advised to await official notifications from the NTA regarding the final structure of the CUET UG 2027 examination.
