SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam 2026: Schedule, Shift Timings and Essential Guidelines

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is set to begin the Tier 1 examination for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2026 starting tomorrow, September 30. The examination will be held in a Computer-Based Examination (CBE) format, with the testing window scheduled to remain open until October 30, 2026. Exam Schedule and Shift Timings

The SSC CGL Tier 1 examination is structured into three daily shifts. To maintain the integrity of the testing process, strict reporting and gate-closing times have been established. For the first shift, the reporting time is 8:30 AM, with the gate closing at 9:30 AM for an exam duration of 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The second shift begins reporting at 12:00 PM, closing gates at 1:00 PM, with the exam running from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Finally, the third shift requires reporting by 3:30 PM, with gates closing at 4:30 PM for the 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM exam session.

The Tier 1 paper consists of 100 questions worth a total of 200 marks. The test is divided into four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension, with each section containing 25 questions. The total time allotted for the examination is 60 minutes.

Essential Exam-Day Guidelines and Documentation

Candidates must arrive at their assigned centres well before the gate-closing time. Entry is strictly prohibited once the gates are closed. On the day of the exam, candidates are required to carry a printed copy of their admit card and a valid original photo identity document. Acceptable forms of identification include an Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Driving Licence, PAN Card, Passport, or a government-issued ID.

If the candidate's photo ID does not explicitly state their date of birth, they must carry an additional original document that provides proof of their birth date. Furthermore, candidates are reminded that electronic devices, including mobile phones and smartwatches, are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. It is recommended that students plan their travel route in advance to avoid any delays. All candidates should follow the instructions provided by the examination staff during the verification and testing process to ensure compliance with commission regulations.
