The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is facing a legal challenge in the Supreme Court of India regarding the transparency of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2026 evaluation process. A writ petition has been filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, specifically contesting the format in which the board released the answer key and response sheets.
The legal action, initiated by the Democratic Medical Association on behalf of candidates who sat for the examinations on August 30 and September 5, 2026, highlights growing frustration among medical aspirants. The core of the dispute lies in the board's decision to provide only numerical identifiers and random question IDs rather than the full text of the questions and their corresponding options.
Following the publication of the NEET PG 2026 answer key on October 1, many candidates reported significant difficulties in verifying their performance. Because the released documents lack the actual question text and the specific order in which options were presented, students argue that it is impossible to cross-verify their responses or accurately calculate their final scores. Petitioners contend that this lack of clarity prevents them from confirming whether the board has correctly mapped their answers.
The petition formally requests that the Supreme Court direct the NBEMS to release the complete set of actual exam questions and the corresponding correct answer options. Furthermore, the association is calling for the establishment of a formal objection window. Currently, candidates have no mechanism to challenge potentially incorrect or ambiguous questions before the commencement of the counselling process. To address these concerns, the petitioners have also proposed the formation of an independent expert panel to review any disputed questions, ensuring a more transparent and accountable examination system for future medical professionals.
